In an article to be published in Sports Illustrated, Richard Dietch writes that UConn is still the team to beat, regardless of the problem they may have with replacing Renee Montgomery—their first test won't come until Stanford visits on December 23rd.
He then discusses other teams that will be chasing the Huskies, beginning with Stanford. He says that Stanford must improve its perimeter shooting (33.4%) if it's going to challenge Connecticut. (It's early days yet, but Stanford's 3-point shooting has improved to 39.1% against ODU and Rutgers.)
