Cardinal shakes off the 'Dogs

The Fresno State Bulldogs took an early lead today and held it for almost eight minutes with an aggressive, effective defense. But the Cardinal shook off some post-finals rust and took control with excellent defense and sufficient offense to defeat the 'Dogs 77-40.

With her first 3-pointer of the game, Jeanette became the 32nd player in Stanford history to make 1,000 points in her career. She hit a couple more 3-pointers later and ended with 15 points and a career total-to-date of 1012. She also had five steals, matching her career-high, and three assists.

Chiney had a great game. She made the first double-double of her college career — 18 points and 13 rebounds, both the game-high.Her field-goal percentage is now 0.652, the best in the Pac-10. Six of her rebounds were offensive; she put four of them back in the basket.

Nneka racked up the second-most points (17). She also had five rebounds, two blocks and three assists, two of them to Chiney — the sisters were really clicking today.

Sarah also made a double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds), the second of her career, in just 17 minutes.

Everyone contributed to the victory. All 12 uninjured players played, ten of them for double-digit minutes. Ten of them scored.

Kayla played the fewest minutes of her career, just 12, because she hit her head hard while taking a charge. She got up soon and walked to the bench, where Dr. Safran sat and spoke with her for several minutes. She did not suffer a concussion, but was held out of the rest of the game as a precautionary measure. At the post-game meeting, Tara said that Kayla will probably not practice for the next few days. As to the game against DePaul, "We'll see."
