Tara to receive Athena Award

Tara has been selected by the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce to receive the 2011 Athena Award.

The award is presented annually by chambers of commerce, women’s organizations and universities in partnership with Athena International. Since the program’s inception in 1982, more than 6000 awards have been presented in over 500 communities worldwide.

The award goes to individuals who:

  • Demonstrate excellence, creativity, and initiative in their business or profession.
  • Provide valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community.
  • Actively assist women in realizing their full leadership potential.
Former Palo Alto mayor Lanie Wheeler nominated Tara for the award with this recommendation, "Tara has had a positive and lasting influence on the hundreds of young women who have benefited from not only the basketball skills she has taught them, but from the life skills upon which she places equal influence. She serves as a wonderful role model."

Tara will receive her award at a Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce luncheon at the Garden Court Hotel in Palo Alto on Nov. 16. You can register to attend the luncheon here.
