The Bootleg
Kayla Pedersen of Fountain Hills, Ariz., who recently committed to Stanford, was named to the 2006 USA Women's FIBA Americas U18 Championship Team on Monday morning.
At 6-feet-4, with ability to play both forward\ and shooting guard, Pedersen was one of the more versatile players of the 33 candidates who tried out for the team at the U.S. Olympic Training Center this past weekend.
Pedersen got off to a great start during the tryouts, but hyperextended her left knee and had to sit out the morning session on Saturday.
"That wasn't good," she said Saturday night. Pedersen added, however, that she had received positive feedback from selection committee members about her performances.
Stanford was one of two colleges - Connecticut being the other - which landed two players on the U.S. team. Jayne Appel of Pleasant Hill, Calif., who will play for Stanford next season, also was named to the team.
Team USA, which will be comprised of eight players from the Class of 2007, will host the FIBA Americas Junior World Championship Qualifier in Colorado Springs, Colo., June 28 to July 2.
