Jeanette's it

Ros, Mel, Jillian and Jeanette have all taken turns at the point this season. When asked about the point guard situation at the press conference following the USC game, Tara replied, "Jeanette's it. I thought she did a really good job. We've kind of made a decision that we're going to run, and Jeanette's pushing the ball."

At her weekly press conference a few days later, Tara was asked if she liked what she saw from the Cardinal halfway through the conference season. She said, "I like how we're pushing the ball in transition, and that's with Jeanette Pohlen at the "one". So I like our point guard play."

There's a lot to like about Jeanette's play:
  • Her intensity and speed as she drives up the court are a joy to watch.

  • She takes care of the ball while making excellent passes. She has the most assists on the team and the highest assist-to-turnover ratio — 2.12, which is second-best in the Pac-10 and #14 in the nation.

  • Her average of 11 points per game makes her the third highest scorer on the team. She is the most consistent shooter from beyond the arc, making 35% of her three-point attempts.

  • She steals the ball almost as often as Jillian — an average of 1.2 times per game. This may be partly credited to her whipping opponents with her ponytail.

Jillian actually leads the team in steals at 1.6/game

I'm always impressed by Jeanette's quick thinking and quick hands - as far as I'm aware it's not a statistic like pure steals, but as a subjective impression I think she creates more jump ball situations by tying up opposing players than anyone else!
