Are the No. 1 seeds already set?

Charlie Creme thinks we may already be looking at our No. 1 seeds three months in advance. He thinks that the No. 1 seeds as of now — Stanford, Connecticut, Baylor and Duke — are good bets to maintain that position all season.

Read why in his espnW commentary.

Creme's first bracket of the season includes four Pac-12 teams with these comments:

  • 1 Stanford: Beating Baylor gave the Cardinal their first No. 1 ranking since 2005. They should hold it at least until a Dec. 29 1-2 showdown against UConn at Maples.

  • 3 California: The only blemish was a disappointing performance at Duke for a Bears team that has multiple weapons and could offer a sizable challenge to Stanford.

  • 4 UCLA: Tennessee transfer Alyssia Brewer appears to have added a lot to the Bruins, who quietly have posted two of the season's most impressive wins -- at Oklahoma and over Texas in Houston.

  • 10 Washington: A 19-point second-half comeback against San Diego State has been part of the Huskies' best start (6-1) since 2002.
It's all speculation at this point, but #1 in Spokane is a lovely aspiration.
