The fun starts again at Maples on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 with a family affair — an exhibition game between the Cardinal and Heidi VanDerveer's UC San Diego Tritons. This will be the third time that Tara and Heidi oppose each other as head coaches.
This is Heidi's sixth season as head coach at UCSD, an NCAA Division II school. The Tritons have won 70.5% of their games during Heidi's tenure. She was named the CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association) Coach of the Year last season for the second straight time.
If you're a season ticket holder, stick around after the game for a "Meet & Greet" event organized by the Stanford ticket office. (Note: There will be several "Behind the Bench" sessions open to everyone this season. See the FBC Schedule for dates.)

The last time Stanford played UCSD in the season-opening exhibition game -- and won -- Gino A contacted Heidi and asked her for some scouting info on Stanford. Heidi refused to provide and only a few days later, Stanford beat U Conn at Maples. Again Stanford plays UCSD, and within a week, plays U Conn. Wonder if Gino will give Heidi another try, and if history can repeat!
