Stanford women's sports dominance

The Stanford Daily is publishing a six-part feature series that explores the strides made by Stanford women’s athletes over the years — and what they continue to accomplish here on a regular basis.

In the first part of the series, published yesterday, Joseph Beyda explores how Stanford women's sports dominance began with an innovative approach in the '70s — an approach that has taken the Cardinal from its first national title in a woman's sport in 1978 to 53, the most in the country, in 35 years.

Long-time fans and current athletes and coaches answer the burning question: Why do women’s basketball and soccer games often draw crowds larger than their men’s counterparts, while other teams, like tennis and softball, struggle to attract the same following?
