The Cardinal took the lead midway through the first half. The Bears stayed close for the next few possessions, but the Cardinal gradually pulled away, and the Bears never got closer than nine points.
Much of the credit for the victory goes to Mikaela, who defended the low post for all but the last 24 seconds. She helped to hold Cal's #1 (Reshanda Gray) and #4 (Gennifer Brandon) scorers to a total of nine points. She scored as many points herself on a couple of jumpers and five of six free throws. She also grabbed the team-high eleven rebounds and dished out the team-high five assists.Chiney evaded her defenders with relative ease today and scored 29 points at a rate of 62.5% from the field and 75% from the free throw line (9 of 12). She added eight rebounds, four assists and three blocks
Karlie cut in for three layups while the Bear defense was focussed on Chiney, made a perfect seven of seven free throws and sank one trey for a total of 16 points. That's her sixth double-digit score in the last seven games.
Amber was the Cardinal's third double-digit scorer with 13 points. She also had five rebounds, three assists and the Cardinal's only steal.
