VanDerveer wins 74-51

It was not an impressive victory. For about 27 minutes, the Cardinal appeared to be focussed on honing its new offensive style rather than on winning the game.

The Cardinal defense, which included several full court presses, was good. But the crisp passing of last week was absent, and the shooting inaccurate — 28% and one of eight three pointers in the first half.

The Tritons played hard and shot well. In particular, senior guard Miranda Seto kept the Tritons in the game with 24 points, including four three-pointers.

The Cardinal had been holding on to a low double-digit lead, but seven minutes into the second half, the Tritons cut it to three. At that point, the Cardinal appeared to decide that the game did count for something. It stepped up the offense and put the game away with a 12-0 run.

Taylor Greenfield kicked off the comeback with an assist to Bird and scored 14 of her total 16 points in those last seven minutes. Two of her shots were from beyond the arc.

Amber led the Cardinal offense for 31 minutes and tallied the only double-double: 11 points and the game-high 12 rebounds.

Bird led the Cardinal scoring with 18 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked five shots.

Kaylee started again and showed why she has earned that position. She tied Amber for the game-high 12 rebounds (seven of them O-boards), scored seven points (all of them free throws!), blocked three shots and stole the ball twice.

Lili sparked the Cardinal offense with two three-pointers and a total of ten points.

Bonnie played for just a few minutes and had time to sink only one of her beautiful, quick three-pointers. Tara noted after the game that Bonnie had major surgery this summer and is being brought back in gradually.

Brittany McPhee saw her first college action — nine minutes, two free throws and one field goal. Brittany has been recovering from a foot injury, and this was just the third time that she's participated in full-court action with the team.

By the way, announcer Betty Ann Boeving will be back soon. She took a couple of weeks off to get married.
