Batman, Robin and Batgirl
... that's what UCLA coach Nikki Caldwell calls Jayne, Kayla and Jillian. "If Jayne struggles there's Kayla or Harmon," Caldwell said. " They have so many weapons you have to pick and choose which facet of their offense you can potentially disrupt."
Today they chose Jayne, and their double-teams "limited" her to six points, six assists, five rebounds, a block and a steal. They didn't disrupt Jillian one bit she had the game-high 17 points, four assists, nine rebounds (including seven beautiful O-boards) and three steals. Nor Kayla 13 points (including three of four 3-pointers), two assists, nine rebounds and three steals.
And that's not all. Although Jeanette had a rare off-day beyond the arc and at the free-throw line, she didn't slow her fast-paced leadership down the court, and she also contributed 10 points and six assists. Nneka had her second double-double: 11 points and 10 rebounds. And for a bit of frosting on the cake, Lindy sank one of her signature ceiling-dusters.
Tara said, "This was a great win for us. I wouldn't say it was a thing of beauty, but we showed some grit and did the things we needed to do."
Oh yes, the score was 68-51.
