The Tigers are from the University of the Pacific in Stockton.
Pacific earned its first post-season tournament victory last season by running away from Arizona State in the first round of the WNIT, before falling at San Diego. It returns eight of its top nine scorers from that squad.
This season it leads the Big West conference with a 6-1 record. Its only loss came last week against the Florida Gaters. Its RPI (as calculated by Collegiate Basketball News) is 21, and its schedule strength is 89.
Pacific is a strong team on offense with very balanced scoring. The Tigers' five starters average between 9.6 and 12.9 points per game.
The Tigers and the Cardinal have not played each other since 2005. They've had two common opponents this season, with these results: Pacific vs Fresno State, 66-56; Stanford vs Fresno State, 72-61; Pacific vs Santa Clara, 72-45; Stanford at Santa Clara, 92-57.
The Tigers' probable starters are:
- #10 6'2" sophomore forward Kendall Kenyon leads her team in most categories with these per-game averages: 12.9 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.8 blocks. She's had five double-doubles this season. She does not shoot from beyond the arc.
- #4, 6'0" senior forward Kendall Rodriguez was named the preseason Big West Player of the Year by College Sports Madness. She averages the second-most points for the Tigers – 11.0 per game. She might score her 1000th career point at Maples – she needs just 13 more.
- #22, 5'6" senior guard Erica MacKenzie runs the point for the Tigers. She averages 4.0 assists per game and has a very good assist/turnover ratio of 1.9. She's also the Tiger's best 3-point shooter. She set the Tigers' single-season record for 3-pointers last season with 75 of them. She's taken 73% of her shots from beyond the arc this season and made 36.5% of them.
