The Cardinal's speed and decisiveness on both defense and offense was a joy to watch — well, perhaps not so for the goodly number of Triton fans in attendance.
Toni started tonight and played the point for most of the first half. Her speed and confidence were impressive. She gets the ball, takes a very brief moment to observe the court, then goes from 0 to 60 in ---. She has said that she'd rather pass than shoot, and she usually pulled up short just inside the perimeter. Once, however, she delighted the Stanford fans by continuing her drive right through all the Triton defenders to the basket for a layup. She played for 23 minutes, scored four points and had two rebounds, a steal, three assists and one turnover.
Chiney was dazzling again tonight. She was the top scorer with 24 points. She also had eight rebounds, a block and three assists. Nneka has said that she can't jump – not so – she doesn't lift the ball up to the basket like Nneka, but she does jump higher than anyone else under the basket for her shots and rebounds. She had only four O-boards tonight, largely because she made 10 of her 12 field goal attempts.
Sarah played a steady game tonight. She held on to the ball (five rebounds), made most of her shots (six of seven attempts for a total of 14 points) and used her height to advantage (three blocks).
Joslyn played the most minutes tonight (25). She's a steady presence – not as noticeable as some of her teammates, but she contributed 14 points at a rate of 70%, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks to the victory.
I thought that Mikaela had a better game tonight than against Vanguard. She didn't score as much, but she seemed more focussed and was steadier on defense. She scored eight points and had five rebounds, five assists, two steals and no turnovers.
The team as a whole made an astonishing 75% of their field goal attempts and out-rebounded the Tritons 46-12.
