Chiney was a beast under the basket – grabbing rebounds, creating shots, putting it back... and back... and back! She got her first career double-double with 24 points and the game-high 16 rebounds (ten of them O-boards!) in Stanford's 116-65 victory over Vanguard.
Toni did a fine job at the point. She's very fast, physically and mentally, sees the floor extremely well, and gets the ball to her teammates with great precision. She was equally impressive on defense – intense and tenacious.
Sara does what good shooting guards do – found and hit the basket – for 16 points, including four of seven three-pointers.
It was a game of three-pointers. Vanguard found it extremely difficult to get past the too-tall whites to the basket; they made 48 of their 65 points from beyond the arc. They have several very good three-point shooters and were assisted by some lapses in Stanford's perimeter defense.
The Cardinal made 51.9% of their three-point attempts. They got 14 of them from six different players – Sara (4), Jeanette (4), Kayla (2), Mikaela (2), Joslyn (1) and Ashley (1).
Tara used an eight-player rotation for most of the game – the three freshmen, Kayla, Jeanette, Sarah, Joslyn and Mikaela. Nneka was resting a tweaked ankle and did not play today.
