Let the games begin

Here's what they're writing about the Cardinal as the 2010-11 season is about to begin.

Tara VanDerveer 'giddy' about Stanford by Mechelle Voepel [ESPN]:

It's clear that Tara is "Tara-level" giddy about the 2010-11 Cardinal. "This team for me so far has been an absolute pleasure," she said, "It's like what you'd write in a coaching manual. Everyone is on time, enthusiastic and encouraging — all the things that would be in a little story written about what you'd hope to see in a team."

Stanford women regroup for another title run by Elliott Almond [Mercury News]:

Stanford's Big Three might add up to another trip to the Final Four. "I know a lot of coaches at this point like to downplay their team," said VanDerveer, starting her 25th season at Stanford. "But we have high expectations and I'm not afraid to talk about them."

Ogwumikes ready to lead Stanford to Final Four by Janie McCauley [Associated Press]

Both Ogwumikes know there is unfinished business on The Farm. Stanford has been to three straight Final Fours and twice lost the championship game. Before Pedersen, a senior, and Nneka are done, they would like to win it all again for a program that believes it needs to take that step.
