Cardinal baffles the Bruins

Never has Tara's directive, "Take away what they like to do," been better heeded.

Steals? Stanford 13, UCLA 10

Turnovers? Stanford 14, UCLA 17

Rebounds? Stanford 39, UCLA 26

Drive to the basket? Not through Stanford's smothering defense

Lead the Pac-10? Not any more – Stanford 64, UCLA 38

Kayla was a beast tonight. She was as aggressive on defense as any of the Bruins, forced at least three held balls, scored the game-high 18 points, had the only double-double with 10 rebounds, had two steals and a block and came 35 minutes closer to breaking the Stanford career record for minutes played!!

Jeanette didn't make many baskets tonight, but garnered 14 points anyway – nine of them on 10 free throw attempts.

Nneka faked out the Bruin defenders time after time and scored 13 points. She also had three rebounds and two steals.

Chiney came thisclose to a double-double with nine points and the game-high 11 rebounds, one of them a put-back of Jeanette's only missed free throw.

Toni shed her defenders with her bursts of speed and sudden stops as she played the point for 20 minutes. She also had the game-high five steals.

A special shout-out to Mel, who, in her first game in nine months, stole the ball from Darxia Morris at mid-court, streaked ahead of her to the basket and laid it up and in.
