The Cardinal got off to a quick 11-0 lead in the first four minutes at Hec Edmundson Pavilion before the Dawgs tightened up their defense and cut the lead to six. Then Joslyn hit a 3-pointer, and the Huskies never got any closer, although they held the differential to no more than 20 until the last three minutes. Final score: Stanford 80, Washington 51.
Strong defense by both teams and over-scrupulous officiating made for an ugly, awkward game and serious foul trouble for the Huskies. Regina Rogers fouled out while playing just seven minutes. Four other Huskies ended with four fouls apiece.
Lindy and Jeanette and the Cardinal's switching defense shut down Kristi Kingma, the Huskies' top scorer. She attempted no 3-pointers and ended with just six points – 11 less than her season average.
The Huskies' defense led to a season-high 18 turnovers and held the Cardinal to 46% shooting (3% below their season average). However, five of the Cardinal scored in double-digits — Nneka 16, Jeanette 15, Kayla 14, Joslyn 10, Chiney 10. Jeanette and Joslyn each hit two 3-pointers, and Lindy hit one. Ten of Kayla's points were free throws.
The Cardinal out-rebounded the Huskies 42 - 23. Nneka had 11 rebounds and the only double-double of the game.
