Tara says, "Don't let them do what they like to do." So far this season, Cal was second in the Pac-10 in rebounds (45.6 per game, 12 more than their opponents). Today, the Cardinal out-rebounded the Bears, 49-26. The Cardinal didn't let DeNesha Stallworth, Cal's leading scorer, do what she likes to do either. She took only two shots today and missed both of them.
The three's weren't falling well today for the Cardinal's usual long-range shooters — Jeanette, Kayla, Joslyn and Sara sank just one apiece. But Toni, who had previously made just two 3-pointers in her college career, hit three of them today and scored a career-high 12 points.
Jeanette led the scoring with 15 points and also had four rebounds, three assists and a block.
Nneka had a great first half with 14 points and seven rebounds. But two minutes into the second half she was knocked to the floor hard as she attempted a layup. She walked off the court after a couple of minutes and spent the rest of the game sitting at the end of the bench, sometimes with an ice pack on her right shoulder and neck.
Kayla came very close to a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Chiney kept busy on offense and defense — 11 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists.
