Cardinal wears down devilish defense

ASU's top scorer Dymond Simon was not able to play tonight. In lieu of her perimeter shooting, the Sun Devils revved up their defense and held the Cardinal to their smallest margin of victory this conference season: Stanford 72, ASU 54.

It was a tough, messy game — lots of aggressive defense, lots of steals and turnovers, lots of fouls, more free throws than field goals on both sides.

Neither team's perimeter shooting was on — the Sun Devils made one of ten 3-pointers, the Cardinal one of five.

Jeanette got into foul trouble and played just 30 minutes. She made good use of her time, hitting six of eleven field goal attempts and all six of her free throws for the game-high total of 19 points. She also had four rebounds two assists and four steals. In the steal pictured on the right, she intercepted Markisha Patterson's fast break, took the ball right out of her hands, raced back up the court and made a layup. Awesome!

Kayla put on a fine show in her last collegiate game before her hometown friends and family — 15 points and ten rebounds for the only double-double of the game, six assists, two blocks and two steals.

Nneka scored 17 points and had three rebounds, an assist, two blocks and a steal.

Chiney had the most rebounds (11), eight points, three blocks and two steals.
