It was far from a typical game for the Cardinal. Instead of, "Get the ball to Chiney," it was, "Get the ball to Amber."
There wasn't much point in getting the ball to Chiney, because the Huskies (especially Stefanie Dolson and Kiah Stokes) did an outstanding job of denying her the basket. Nonetheless, she scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
Amber succeeded in eluding the Husky defense or drawing fouls as she dribbled and drove her way to the basket. She scored the game-high (and her career-high) 22 points.
The freshmen provided some bright spots for the Cardinal.
Lili was first off the bench and led the point for almost 20 minutes. She was fast and decisive and mostly effective — four turnovers against UConn defense isn't bad. And she sank two 3-pointers.
Kailee started again and played for 24 minutes. She still hasn't found her shot (made just one of nine), but she grabbed seven rebounds and was a strong defender.
Briana made her first collegiate appearance. She played only three minutes, but tallied a rebound and an assist.
Tara has said that every game is a 'W' — some big and some little. The Cardinal will have much to learn from this one, but it was a very little 'w'.
