Good girls and the Battle of the Bay

The big news this week was, unfortunately, Brittney Griner's punching Jordan Barncastle during the Baylor vs Texas Tech game. Many opinions about what the consequences should be have been voiced. Jake Curtis asked Tara for her opinion of the incident in Stanford coach VanDerveer reacts to Brittney Griner punch. (It was announced on Thursday that Griner will be suspended for two games.)

On the other hand, here are stories about two basketball players that are a credit to themselves and their sport and a source of pride to their fans.

"She's kind of the rock on the team. You can depend on her. I'm probably the hardest on her of any player because she's one of our toughest kids. You want to go into battle with her," from Quiet Pedersen knows good gals can finish first by Tom FitzGerald, San Francisco Chronicle.

"Even in communities where collars are blue and dollars are scarce, a city that has earned a reputation for eating its young can grow seeds that blossom," from Alexis Gray-Lawson has dodged Oakland's dangers and become a success on and off the basketball court by Monte Poole, Oakland Tribune.

The local media anticipates Saturday's Big Game:
